"Outside Looking In"
7" x 9.5"

Materials & Process: Uroboros machine rolled clear flashed with Bullseye black powdered glass then sandblasted to remove unwanted areas of black. Painted with Glassline paints and fully fused onto a base of Bullseye Deco Gray. The final move was to sandblast/carve on the frame portion a design of circles to mimic, repeat, emphasise the circle shape of the eye.

Content / Intent Statement: The "Outside Looking In" drawing went beyond a description of what I saw, and became more about who I think I am. It well describes my sense of being on the outside of things, and of being an observer. I pay attention to the small moments around me. I draw them, I paint them, I tell stories about them. This self portrait is drawn from an angle and perspective that is a bit outside the bounds of the picture plane, a bit out of frame. It's me, standing on the outside, looking in.

You may feel that you're on the outside looking in, but you were smack in the middle of this project and drew out the best that all the entrants had to offer.

Your piece gives the sense of a person with some inner shadows, who does not want to remain on the outside, but doesn't quite know how to get on the "inside."

I really like the techniques used and the perspective. The "eyes" say it all! Stan

Looking at your portrait makes me think of someone who has gained a lot of insight and wisdom. You look relaxed like you're not concerned about joining in - more like you haven't decided if you choose to.

I love the "calmness" of it, the understanding that you dont have to be in the center of events to understand or even enjoy them, but I also see a hint of sadness there too.

Cynthia, thanks so much for the idea. You helped me in my work; gave me strength to obtain this goal.Everyone participated so nicely and you did such a great job of putting it all together.Just doing the protrait was a great way to get me on track. I tend to watch and listen to everyone else on the board rather than create myself. I am going to work to change that. Thank you and all who participated. The twins are just great and so down home.

Your piece is so pensive in character. You have a wonderful way of portaying your mood with the glass . Excellent.
We all want to thankyou as a group for all you have done to bring this project to a "bitter sweet"conclusion (as I feel a bit melancholy that it has come to the end of a great journey; and from the bottom of my heart!!! Thanks!!!! Leslie Rowe-Israelson
