"Not Quite Right"
12" x 12" x 1"

Materials and Process: Kilnformed Bullseye glass, enamels, aluminum frame. Process Information: fused glass "photo-collage" created with photoresist; textured and painted surface.

Intent / Content Statement: Ever since I was very young, I knew that I was different. Others in my life were also becoming aware that little Richie wasn't like other normal boys. I'll never forget the humiliation of being at a big family gathering and my grandfather observing -- quite loudly, as I remember it -- that "that boy is just not quite right." And he was correct. But just because I'm not quite right doesn't make me all wrong.

Viewing your self portrait, I felt a sense of sadness. It's an amazing piece of work!
But it reminds one how a few simple words can cause heartache, and can stay with us a very long time.
I think it's great when a piece of artwork can stir emotion. You really captured that sense!

My 14-year-old daughter and I looked through all the entries today. This was one of her favorites. Of course, she's not quite right either, but proud of it. Very nice piece.

Great piece. I even like the typeface you chose. It has an old feeling to it.

Oh my!!! What is right anyways. Who are we to say such a thing about our grandson. My twin and I used to get the comments "oh you will never make anything of yourselves, but hey ! what is "making it" anyways. We call ourselves UNIQUE! Well done! Leslie Rowe-Israelson

Who gets to decide what's right anyway? Great piece.

A very poignant statement on how people can judge others all to soon before that person has a chance to really bloom. I was quite moved by your art and statement. Congratulations.
